US clinical research firm PPD closes deal in Bulgaria

The US clinical research firm PPD has completed the acquisition of AbC.R.O. (AbCRO), a Bulgarian CRO that operates in central and eastern Europe and has offices in seven countries. More than 230 employees are joining PPD, including Dana Leff and Christa Pleasants, AbCRO's co-founders.

In the past two years, most multinational pharmaceutical companies announced plans to create production facilities in Russia. They had been ignoring such an opportunity for years, and there were reasons for that.
