FDA reverses stance and expands access to Plan B

The US FDA will clear the way for women as young as 17 years of age to have access to Barr Pharmaceuticals' (now Teva Pharmaceutical Industries) emergency contraceptive Plan B (levonorgestrel) over the counter. The product is currently available without a prescription to women aged 18 years and older, although it is sold behind pharmacy counters. Younger women need a prescription.
