The UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has appointed Dr Colin Hunter as the first chair of the independent Primary Care Quality and Outcomes Framework indicator advisory committee. The appointment follows confirmation that NICE will oversee development of future Quality Outcomes Framework (QOF) indicators for GPs. Dr Hunter has worked as a GP for more than 20 years and has held a number of positions, including chairman of the Scottish Council of the Royal College of General Practitioners (1996–2000) and national co-ordinator of primary care for NHS Education Scotland (1995–2005). He was also involved in the original version of the QOF, helping to draw up the outline scheme for the framework.
