SMITHKLINE BEECHAM AQUAFRESH SALES INCREASE 26% TO $229.8 MIL. for the first six months of 1997 on a constant currency basis ([pound]1 = $1.63), SmithKline Beecham reported July 22. For the second quarter, revenues of the dentifrice brand increased 29% (excluding currency fluctuations), "helped by" Aquafresh Whitening sales in the U.S., the company said. U.S. Whitening sales also drove Aquafresh's toothpaste dollar share to 11.8%, SmithKline noted. The company launched its whitening formula in 1995 ("The Rose Sheet" April 17, 1995, p. 6).
