Executive Summary

California cosmetology bill: S.B. 184 referred to California Assembly Appropriations Committee following passage by the Assembly Consumer Protection Committee by a 10-2 vote July 8. Introduced Jan. 22 by Sen. Richard Polanco (D-Dist. 20), the bill would extend the sunset date of the regulatory Board of Barbering and Cosmetology by four years to July 1, 2001. S.B. 184 passed the Senate floor May 22 with a 29-7 vote. On July 8, the Assembly Consumer Protection Committee also passed S.B. 515, a bill to extend regulations governing cosmetology school standards and instructor qualifications to July 1, 2001 by a 13-0 vote.
