Executive Summary
A technology which uses high-speed water jets to cut through hard and soft tissue has been patented in the US. The technique could reduce the pain which can accompany conventional laser surgery. Researchers at BioLase, the San Clemente, California based manufacturer, have developed a method for generating high-speed atomised water particles to cut tissue without heat for applications including dentistry, wrinkle removal and skin cancer treatment. The company is also looking for customers in the semiconductor industry.
