David Edmonds has been appointed to chair the UK's NHS Direct, when it becomes a special health authority in April 2004. NHS Direct has been used by over 20 million callers and currently deals with half a million calls a month. "NHS Direct is to be significantly expanded over the next three years," the DoH said yesterday. In association with its web-based partner NHS Direct Online, it is said to be the world's largest and most successful e-healthcare provider.
