Fully 97% of all primary care consultations in Spain are conducted using electronic patient records and other IT-based clinical management systems. Picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) are operational in 60% of all hospitals, and "more than 90%" operate dedicated pathology laboratory IT systems. So says the health ministry, citing a progress report on the first two years of the national "healthcare online" programme. The findings, it claims, put Spain in the lead in terms of applying healthcare IT.
