Miltenyi buys Switzerland's Medic Tools

German biotechnology group Miltenyi Biotech has expanded its sample preparation business with the acquisition of Medic Tools, a Zug, Switzerland-based company specialising in disposable sterile sample homogenisation systems. Miltenyi's MACS technology is considered the gold standard in magnetic cell separation – the cells are then used in various applications including biomedical research and cellular therapy. The addition of Medic Tool's expertise in automated sterile homogenisation of a broad range of sample materials will allow Miltenyi to develop further technologies in the area of sample preparation, said Bergisch Gladbach-based Miltenyi. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
