PLC will take over developing and manufacturing Edwards' Optimaze cardiac surgical laser ablation technology for arrhythmias under a Feb. 25 alliance building upon a 2001 distribution pact for PLC's transmyocardial revascularization system. Edwards, which will retain worldwide distribution rights for Optimaze, is seeking to expand development of the device, used in open heart procedures, to include products that can be used on a beating heart via less invasive approaches.
